Travel With Me

Walk with me hand in hand
Into a dreamland of intent
Where wisdom abounds
Where knowledge looms
Infants grow into men groomed
Leaders of nations to bloom.

I am now old with graying hair
With lessened time at hand
Guide your still tiny steps
Cling on to my old arms bent
Until your limbs are strong
Armed against forces unknown.

Oh, my lovely grandchildren
HIS WISDOM must be learned
GODLY deeds from you I yearned
Unto HIS EYES merits earned
To be HIS child knowledge discerned
Virtues be learned, these am I concerned.

CLOUDS

Happily, happily I float
Above with my Master
Fluffy, light as a feather
With Him in His shelter

Sunlight through me filter
A glow so wondrous under
Look up to me with wonder
Magic formations yonder

When at peace with nature friendly
You see me at times formed like a baby
Or an angel smiling with the breeze
Or balloons of pure white in majesty

I wish I could always stay longer
Carefree untroubled with water
Why should you go up and bother
Fill me up and color me darker

I am now heavy, black with anger
Unto earth my fury without falter
Thunder and lightning my brothers
Tears pouring, flowing with dangers

A Birthday Wish

On the 16th of this month of October, I will turn another chapter of my life. I will be a year older. I would say that the LORD has been good to me. HE has always been with us, guiding us, protecting all of us from harm, giving us food on the table, keeping us healthy, and allowing us to savor some luxuries. He has answered my prayers, not only for my family but prayers for friends, friends of friends, and prayer requests from emails. There is one thing though that HE has not answered yet, and that is really breaking my heart. But I still hold on to my faith, in HIS time, my prayer will be answered. I just lift up everything to HIM. I look beyond the horizon. After today, tomorrow will be the perfect day for HIS revelation, HIS purpose, HIS plans, and the future HE holds for what my heart longs for. Then the pain so deep in my heart will turn into joyous celebration of thankfulness, of gratitude beyond compare. O LORD, I await for that day!

i carry your heart with me: by ee cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate, my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

A friend posted this poem in his blog a few days ago...It is also one of my favorite love poems..

The last line "i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)" is the most beautiful...to all the people I love, I carry your hearts in my heart every moment of my life..

A Birthday Poem

An advance poem for someone I consider my true son. He is to celebrate his birthday on September 21....I wish him all the best for his special day. GOD BLESS HIM ALWAYS!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY SON!

A small voice whispering
The moment I’ve seen him
Call him your son from within
Last a lifetime, sweet caring.

A flutter deep inside
On the first day we set eyes
I knew the bond is strong
Mysteries of love unfold.

The best of health and happiness
My prayers night and day
For him miles and miles away
Never let him go astray.

So many love him dearly
Friends, acquaintances, family
But I feel his presence completely
For he is my son absolutely!

Happy Birthday, my loving son
Don’t be sad if no one’s around
To spend the big day without
Special people you care about.

In spirit and thoughts
You are always with me
Caring, loving, praying
For me everyday is your birthday!

HAPPY, HAPPY, AND A BLESSED SPECIAL DAY!

IN SILENCE

By Ancient-dreamergirl

In silence, either day or night
Knocking at my red chambers
Who am I? Why am I here?
Am I worth a penny in this world?

In silence, I cry, to release the pain
Unburden the longings inside
Wallow in shame for sins hidden
Listen to the Voice to say, forgiven.

In silence, I fly, soaring high as an eagle
Into time and space where there is no lie
Only the soul in a body that hungers
To be in union with the Almighty.

HOw I wish the world would be a place to live in where there is only love to share, no hatred, no envy, no struggles for power. In the silence of the night, I pray for peace and love to be in everyone's heart.

Remembering A Dear and Loving Boss

Remembering A Dear and Loving Boss

There would have been a big celebration this week. Unfortunately, she passed away almost a year ago. During my time, her birthday was usually celebrated with a sumptuous lunch prepared by Eva attended by all her subordinates in Treasury and the senior officers of the bank. She should have been 61 (I hope I am right) if she had been alive

This short poem is dedicated to her.

In countenance someone would perceive
A lady so serious in thoughts and deeds
In the silence of her room, she is in motion
The whispered telephone instructions.

In times we get to talk about business
Her insights and comments must heed
Deep, profound, encompassing
Areas of concern, less we ‘re forgetting.

Seldom can someone see her smile
But deep inside a golden heart she hides
Cigarette on hand, the light footsteps behind
A picture of elegance, nobody can deny.

Every morning she greets me hello!
What transpired in the market ago
Did you win, or did you lose
Tell her so, then I am on the go.

It has been years the last we met
And when we did the question I heard
“How are you? You haven’t changed”
Simple words that touched my nerves.

I pray now where her ashes went
In Heaven where her soul deserves
A peace and love, a glow within
A Child of God, a glory win!

Madre y Niño

I wrote this poem for a painting done by someone close to my heart. But I don't have the permission to post the painting with this poem.. It would be so wonderful if this poem is with the painting.

Madre y Niño
by Ancient-dreamergirl

I was born, you were so happy
I was second for you to love
With so much hope within thee
Heart soaring with gratitude Above

Hardships to see me through
Traverse the wild, hard road
Prayers the mighty weapon
Brought me home the bacon.

I dedicate now this humble art
To a devoted mother I so much love
For without her by my side
Me, nothing, a pauper by the roadside!

The next poem is about the innocence of a child's eyes.

Innocence
by Ancient-dreamergirl

Innocence in their eyes
A beauty to behold
A faith in everything
That needs to be told
In His loving arms
Such wondrous words
Of wisdom, tenderness
Understanding, patience
Affection, but most of all
Thanksgiving for such
Blessings of beauty untold.

ETCHED IN MY MIND

I am sorry that this is a very sad poem. While writing down this poem, I can't help the tears rolling down my cheeks as I remember the painful days in the hospital seeing my mother battle her breast cancer. It was a time when I wish I had magic to bring all my siblings home to make her smile.

Creative Writing Challenge #10
ETCHED IN MY MIND
Ancient-dreamergirl

For days you laid helpless in a lonely room
Only my hands to cling on
Wanting to say it is ok the light will come out
Very soon, very soon.

The doctors say a few more days
A few check ups here and there
But days became weeks
Until one day, all gone astray!

Until that very day, you hold on to me
Saying, “I want to go home!”
I said, “Mama dear, very soon, very soon”
I held back the tears in my eyes
For I knew I was lying
The end is near, the end is near.

While waiting for them to come home
I was helpless and all alone
Praying to God for strength and all
What could possibly have gone wrong
I tried everything to let her see the dawn
But Your Time is beckoning her HOME.

ETCHED IN MY MIND forever
Her lonely face of longing
To see all her children around her
But what can I do to ease the pain
Wish I had the magic wand
To bring them all together.

YOU ALWAYS HOLD MY HAND

A poem written years ago when bedridden for double pneumonia. I really thought I would be meeting my CREATOR already, but HE held my hand and had given me more time to be happy with my family..Praise His Holy Name!!

You Always Hold My Hand!

by: ancient-dreamergirl

Because You always hold my hand

In times of extreme sorrow

When my heart is torn in two

When tears are here to flow

Fearing no sun is in the morrow

I lay my head on my pillow,

Close my eyes and dream

That the sun will shine on me

Brighten my days forever.

My faith I hold on strongly

Because You Always Hold my hand!

The End Begins

Written in memory of my parents laid to rest in a memorial park called "Garden of Memories"

The End Begins

by: Ancient-dreamergirl

Walking through the velvety grass

I lay a scented wreath of flowers

I said a little prayer in the mass

For them my heart remembers.

He and she laid there for years

Leaving us in tears we shield

Laughter, songs, whispers in ears

Treasured moments I hold most dear.

I knew then ‘tis the beginning of the end

New life with HIM, a coming of spring

For in life’s journey, something in the bend

I surrender to HIM, much laughter it brings!

Creative Challenge # 9

A Moment In Time
(Free verse)
You have come to fill the void
left by someone I hold so dear
I know that this is just a fantasy
but for a moment in time
Just this once, you are mine.

Maybe they say I am crazy
But to hold you near
To see and touch your face
Is happiness fulfilled
And for a moment in time
Just this once, you are mine!

Let me savor this gossamer
Moment in time for
Just this once, you are mine!!

Creative Challenge # 8 Meaningless Words

MEANINGLESS WORDS
I would rather
you look at me in the eyes
To say you care deeply
without the lies
Of carefully painted words
of make believe
Meaningless words
of hidden love betrayed!

I would rather sit with you
hand in hand
No words between us
only the rushing
Of soft winds fanning
our inner beings
No meaningless words
of hidden love betrayed

I love you with all the strength
of angels’ wings
I love you deeply
Only the voice of my soul
Reverberating
The purity of feelings, my heart
Needs no meaningless
Words of hidden love betrayed!

Creative Chanllenge # 7 A Strength In

A Strength in Failure

Your heart’s desire is not granted
In silence your heart is broken
You still keep a happy surface
For me not to be downhearted!

The sadness you face with valor
Fearless to face tomorrow
Head up high, ah, such grandeur
My child, such strength in failure!

Creative Challenge # 6 In The End

IN THE END
Smile so sweet in the sunlight streaming
I walk the aisle with church bells ringing
So loud to the world announcing
Here I am, so happy to wear thy ring.

Two hearts were bound right down in the bend
Start to fill the home with laughter
Two little kids playing to tickle
Our souls fly high with blessings given.

In just a few years, they will say “I do!”
Leaving us to tears of happiness
Waiting to kiss, hug, play with gusto
Feet running wild, my home, what a mess!

Now, old and wise, wrinkled but happy
Reminiscing, looking and hoping
In the end as in the beginning
Just the two of us, contented, reclining
In a worn rocking chair, wide eyed but smiling!

Creative Challenge # 5 The Beauty Of

The Beauty of My Little Sampaguita

So fragrant its tiny petals
So white and pure
Fresh green leaves to be proud of
Clinging in its helplessness
But not a burden in its lightness.
A symbol of purity,
Modesty, simplicity
Oh my lovely Sampaguita
On my altar, adorn thee!

Creative Challenge # 4 Take Me With

Take Me With You In
Flying above the clear blue skies
Outstretched wings, soaring high
Elegant, majestic as a king!

Poems Written for Special People

The first poem was written for a friend who had suffered much pain in the past years. I salute him for his strength and strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am praying that HE sustains him always for his children need him by their side. This poem is one of the many he posted in his site entitled Written in Sadness..

To a Precious Friend, “Enigma”
By Ancient-dreamergirl

My sword I hold to fend myself
The brush with paints of varied hues
Calling out, take me off thy shelf
Spread the colors of life subdued.

Canvass on hold awaits me stand
Deliver the broken soul within me
Despite the tears, an empty hand
I cling to GOD, let the present be!

I ask, “Why is life such a mystery”
A few seconds, my life is like summer
The sun so bright , the horizon clear
Then rain sets in with roaring thunder.

Water rushing, flooding all my sight
Destroyed the happiness built inside
No more fragrant flowers of delight
All washed away by the heavy flight.

Before thy throne of grace I stand
Surrender my whole being to You
I know the gift of brush in hand
Give glory to You, My praises due!

The second poem is written for someone I hold so dear. Have you heard the term "lukso ng dugo"? The moment I set eyes on this person I knew that there is a spiritual connection, something that is on a higher plane than that of normal things. Now, I have two beloved sons, he, as my spiritual first born and the next is my biological son. My prayers for my children are good health, happiness and contentment in whatsoever GOD has given them.

To My Son So Far Away
By Ancient-dreamergirl

Miles and miles away
In a land where your dreams abound
In spirit and in essence
Music of your being resound.

Longing to see your face
Look into your eyes so grave
So joyful to behold your smile
Graceful as a lullaby.

My heart rejoices when you say
You also care for me
My prayers night and day
Happy, healthy, content as can be.

Though no chemistry of blood
Can prove that you’re really mine
I treasure, cherish more the bond
More lasting, please, never unbind.

TO THE BEST FATHER IN THE LAND

I will make an effort to update this site on a weekly basis.

It is a bit late for Father's Day but I will still post this poem. We had a very simple celebration of the day, the whole family at home with a simple meal on the table.

TO THE BEST FATHER IN THE LAND
By ancient-dreamergirl

Your wit and humor are more
Than enough to carry us through
In laughter and tears, in pain and joy
You are always positive through and through.

You may not have given us the luxuries all
But the thoughtfulness and caring are
Present, glorifying in all you say and do
It’s in the little things that imply you care deeply, too.

We are blessed to have you as someone
To love, respect, honor, and cherish
For me, a loving and faithful husband
God-fearing father incomparable to none!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY FROM ALL OF US!!

MY HEART IS BREAKING

Today is Friday, June 20, 2008. It is a sad day for me. My dearest daughter is sad because she was very disappointed with the outcome of her desire to have a new post at the office. With such a heavy heart, I wrote this poem for her.

MY HEART IS BREAKING
By: ancient-dreamergirl

My heart is breaking into pieces
I can’t bear to see you cry
I wish I could change the chances
But they are not for me to try.

I believe that HE has other plans
In the future for you, wait awhile
HE cares and knows your heart
As HE prepares, in the meanwhile:

Wipe your tears, my dear child
Another day, another chance
Today is not the time to mind
A move to higher, grander plans

If Only I Could

By ancient-dreamergirl

If only I could build a bridge
Over the vast blue skies above
If only I could fly a big machine
And reach you in time my love.

If only I could hold you again
Against my hungry breast
If only I could get you back
Inside my womb, the best!

If only I could give you the world
I would try to lay it before thy feet
If only I could muster the words
I would say to you my pleas to heed!

Don’t go, I will sing you a lullaby
Stay with me, comfort me awhile
So far away, yonder your wings bring
My little child, success in its being?

On Solitude

Another old poem.

ON SOLITUDE
By: Ancient-dreamergirl

Loneliness I cry out to thee
Why all day long you sit with me
I try to run as fast as I could
Away from you, yes I would!

Why the lonely colors linger
Why the pain do not subside
Why must the heart remember
What must I do, surrender?

I told myself that I am strong
Nothing can crash my spirit
Nothing can ever go wrong
That in my hands, FOUND IT!

Like the air that goes so thin
I blew my life away with him
Why must love ever end this way
So much to give, love gone astray!

TWENTY FIVE YEARS OF WEDDED BLISS

This is the most recent poem I wrote on our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary last year....25th day of September 2007....although our plan to spend the time with my family in Australia did not push through because of events that we have no control of, I am still happy...We can go all together some other time...

TWENTY FIVE YEARS OF WEDDED BLISS
By ancient-dreamergirl

Silver years has passed so quick
Being with you is utter bliss
Problems too have been with ease
What more to say, heaven not to cease.

Two little kids are grown with pride
Lovely lady, handsome kid with me in stride
In a future that HE made so bright
Oh God, so blessed we unto thy sight!

A hubby though not perfect in everything
To me that adds to simple things
A warm embrace, some tender kiss
Enough to brighten, give me a blink!

Not the plushy car, nor a mansion in a hill
A simple house with laughter fills
All that I ask of him to me fulfill
I am happy, let time stand still.

“ WE ARE SO BLESSED TO STAND THE TEST OF TIME,
UNTIL WE GROW OLD TO SAVOR OUR GOLDEN YEARS TOGETHER!”

My Wedding Day

I wrote this poem before my 'big day' on 25th of September twenty five years ago...

My Wedding Day
By: ancient-dreamergirl

Restless to see the dawn to break
In the morning come, at last awake
To see myself in gown to wear
My beau to meet, never forsake

In the early ray of sunshine bright
There stands my man in armor shine
With smile on lips I want to fly
Like a bird so free happy in flight.

Bells ringing, angels singing
Flowers on hand, I wear the ring
To say “I do”, the priest hearing
Pledge my love forever keeping.

'WHY"

Written a few months ago when the night was cold and lonely. I had been there so I know what my child feels about this matter of the heart. To wait patiently for the right guy is the right thing to do. Until that time comes, stay as pure and innocent as you are now until both of you say “I do.”

“WHY”
By: ancient-dreamergirl

As I lay your head cradled upon my breast
With soulful eyes you look up to me and said,
“Why is love so elusive?”
My darling child I said,
“Love so pure and true is there somewhere
Waiting for you, not now nor tomorrow
But sometime He only knows can come true
Let not your heart fill with sorrow or pain
For in a while your prince come hopping up his way
Let not your heart dictate to HIM your ways
What HE prepares, someone beyond compare.”

Songs of My Heart

I am in the mood to share the poems that I have written in the past. Yesterday, I shared my poem, In Dilemma.

This one today is about a girl's anticipation in waiting for the man in her life....

At Twenty Four
by ancient-dreamergirl

Two tens and four my time of gold
Who in the stars my heart to hold
Is it the one of heavens told
You to my soul, to my sight unfold.

Counting stars each night in bed
Thinking how or have we met
Counting hours till morning comes
To me, my beau, my beau, becomes.

Are you the guy with raven hair
With pensive eyes, smile so rare
Come now, ahh, long time in wait
Please don’t let my life in vain!

In Dilemma

A short poem.

In Dilemma
by ancient-dreamergirl

I can hear the birds chirping outside my window pane,
But harken not I to go and shoo the birds away
When my heavy heart I can the world put to shame
Romeo and Juliet, no, not I, death to blame.

If the pain within the rains can wash away
If the sun comes out of clouds, a hint of ray
Will this aching stop, will it go away
Tell me now, tell me, or shall I go astray?

Memories coming, my heart start aching
Past, present, and future, I start shaking
Do I have to face you, start pretending
What have I to say, is it nothing?

Ah, fate, why are you so vain?
For me to choose, honor or fame
Can’t hide from Him, unlock the chain
Dear God, forgive, I am not insane.

WRITTEN FROM THE HEART

I want to share with all of you a wonderful poem written by a friend. If only every child in the world would express his undying love, admiration, respect, and appreciation for his/her mother, no mother would ever feel unwanted, unappreciated and unloved. The poem is in Tagalog. I thought of translating it in English and post both the Tagalog and English version, but I knew I won't be able to make justice to the purity of emotions in the poem as expressed in the vernacular.

TO ALL MOTHERS IN THE WORLD....A BLESSED AND HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

Aking Ina
T.R.Ladran*

Laging sumasagi sa alaala
Kamusta na kaya ang aking ina
Walang araw na di naiisip
Kasama minsan kahit panaginip

Buong buo sa gunita
Ang dinaanan kong lupa
Mabato, maputik
kung minsan ay may tinik
Subalit tanong sa sarili
Ang galos ko'y nasa binti
Wala sa paa, wala sa talampakan
at iilan lamang!

Minsan mabilis, minsan ay mabagal
Ang pag-usad ko sa buhay
Ngunit hindi naramdaman
Ang pagod sa paglalakbay
Sapagkat sa mahabang panahon
Sa paglakad at pagtakbo,
ay natutulog, nahihimlay
Nakapasan sa likod ni inay!

Minsan nababasa sa malakas na ulan,
Minsan naluluto sa init ng araw,
Minsan nagugutom, nauuhaw

Poems by Robert Burns

I consider poetry as songs of the heart. Reading such wonderful verses can transport one's soul into the deep recesses of another person's heart. For me, a gift of a poem is as priceless as the biggest diamond in the world, in fact, more valuable because a poem cannot be stolen, but be forever kept in the chambers of one's heart.

A Red, Red Rose
By: Robert Burns
Oh my luve is like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June:
Oh my luve is like the melodie,
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!
And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again, my luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

To A Kiss
By: Robert Burns
Humid seal of soft affections,
Tend'rest pledge of future bliss,
Dearest tie of young connections,
Love's first snow-drop, virgin kiss.

Speaking silence, dumb confession,
Passion's birth, and infants' play,
Dove-like fondness, chaste concession,
Glowing dawn of brighter day.

Sorrowing joy, adieu's last action,
Ling'ring lips, -- no more to join!
What words can ever speak affection
Thrilling and sincere as thine!

In The Mood For Poetry

Today, I am in the mood to be inside the thoughts of one of my favorite poets, Sara Teasdale.

Because
By: Sarah Teasdale
Oh, because you never tried
To bow my will or break my pride,
And nothing of the cave-man made
You want to keep me half afraid,
Nor ever with a conquering air
You thought to draw me unaware --
Take me, for I love you more
Than I ever loved before.

And since the body's maidenhood
Alone were neither rare nor good
Unless with it I gave to you
A spirit still untrammeled, too,
Take my dreams and take my mind
That were masterless as wind;
And 'Master!' I shall say to you
Since you never asked me to.

I Am Not Yours
By: Sarah Teasdale
I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.

You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.

Oh plunge me deep in love -- put out
My senses, leave me deaf and blind,
Swept by the tempest of your love,
A taper in a rushing wind.

I Would Live in Your Love
By: Sarah Teasdale
I would live in your love as the sea-grasses live in the sea,
Borne up by each wave as it passes, drawn down by each wave that recedes;
I would empty my soul of the dreams that have gathered in me,
I would beat with your heart as it beats, I would follow your soul as it leads.

When Love Goes

O mother, I am sick of love,
I cannot laugh nor lift my head,
My bitter dreams have broken me,
I would my love were dead.

"Drink of the draught I brew for thee,
Thou shalt have quiet in its stead."

II

Where is the silver in the rain,
Where is the music in the sea,
Where is the bird that sang all day
To break my heart with melody?

"The night thou badst Love fly away,
He hid them all from thee."

Love Me

Brown-thrush singing all day long
In the leaves above me,
Take my love this little song,
"Love me, love me, love me!"

When he harkens what you say,
Bid him, lest he miss me,
Leave his work or leave his play,
And kiss me, kiss me, kiss me!
Hidden Love

I hid the love within my heart,
And lit the laughter in my eyes,
That when we meet he may not know
My love that never dies.

But sometimes when he dreams at night
Of fragrant forests green and dim,
It may be that my love crept out
And brought the dream to him.

And sometimes when his heart is sick
And suddenly grows well again,
It may be that my love was there
To free his life of pain.

"I Love You"

When April bends above me
And finds me fast asleep,
Dust need not keep the secret
A live heart died to keep.

When April tells the thrushes,
The meadow-larks will know,
And pipe the three words lightly
To all the winds that blow.

Above his roof the swallows,
In notes like far-blown rain,
Will tell the little sparrow
Beside his window-pane.

O sparrow, little sparrow,
When I am fast asleep,
Then tell my love the secret
That I have died to keep.

I Would Live in Your Love

I would live in your love as the sea-grasses live in the sea,
Borne up by each wave as it passes, drawn down by each wave that recedes;
I would empty my soul of the dreams that have gathered in me,
I would beat with your heart as it beats, I would follow your soul
as it leads.

Less than the Cloud to the Wind

Less than the cloud to the wind,
Less than the foam to the sea,
Less than the rose to the storm
Am I to thee.

More than the star to the night,
More than the rain to the lea,
More than heaven to earth
Art thou to me.

The Prayer

My answered prayer came up to me,
And in the silence thus spake he:
"O you who prayed for me to come,
Your greeting is but cold and dumb."

My heart made answer: "You are fair,
But I have prayed too long to care.
Why came you not when all was new,
And I had died for joy of you."

A Fantasy

Her voice is like clear water
That drips upon a stone
In forests far and silent
Where Quiet plays alone.

Her thoughts are like the lotus
Abloom by sacred streams
Beneath the temple arches
Where Quiet sits and dreams.

Her kisses are the roses
That glow while dusk is deep
In Persian garden closes
Where Quiet falls asleep.

By the Sea

Beside an ebbing northern sea
While stars awaken one by one,
We walk together, I and he.

He woos me with an easy grace
That proves him only half sincere;
A light smile flickers on his face.

To him love-making is an art,
And as a flutist plays a flute,
So does he play upon his heart

A music varied to his whim.
He has no use for love of mine,
He would not have me answer him.

To hide my eyes within the night
I watch the changeful lighthouse gleam
Alternately with red and white.

My laughter smites upon my ears,
So one who cries and wakes from sleep
Knows not it is himself he hears.

What if my voice should let him know
The mocking words were all a sham,
And lips that laugh could tremble so?

What if I lost the power to lie,
And he should only hear his name
In one low, broken cry?

VALENTINE'S DAY

So much fuss has been given this day for the hearts especially by those who can make much profits from this occasion…Flower shops run out of flowers, chocolates, cakes and other sweet delights are in demand. The malls are full of “come ons” for your special one. Red is everywhere. Prices of flowers go wild….ouch… a thousand pesos for just a dozen flowers!!! For sure, there will be traffic in the lines of all the cell phone companies for the thousands of love messages that will be sent this day. But for those who are so much in love, price doesn’t matter, anyway, it is only once a year. Only once a year!! But isn’t it that LOVE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS? Showing one’s love must be every day, every moment.

Well, anyways, it is good to have a special day like this one. For lovers, it is a day to surprise the loved one. At least there is a day to break a somewhat monotonous way of life. This time that you can hear nothing but scandals, corruption, rallies, etc., to focus on other things not political is a welcome one.

I can’t help but compare the Valentine’s Days I had experienced with the present one. During my time, we didn’t have cell phones for texting or emails, so the only way messages of love could be sent were through the telegram companies, letters, or cards. Modesty aside, I had my share of suitors who sent me some flowers, chocolates, cards and messages. The telegrams those times were sent via PT&T, RCPI, Eastern Telecoms, some companies that I could remember. How funny, I often received the telegrams two or three days after Valentine’s Day. Well, trust PT&T to be on time and you would be in trouble….never on time. Hahahaha….No malice intended for PT&T but it was a common knowledge during my time that the company was not efficient. So with the cards and letters….well, the post office that time was also jammed with undelivered letters and packages…so the greetings were a week, a month or so delayed. A backward society, you would say…but it was our time, not yours today of computerized gadgets.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY TO ALL!!
